Romeo Candido’s directorial feature length debut, Lolo’s Child, is the very first in Canada by a Filipino. It opened the Toronto Reel Asian Film Festival in 2002 and has toured the world, and Romeo was the first Filipino from abroad to win the prestigious Ishmael Bernal Award for Young Cinema with Lolo’s Child at Cinemanila International Film Festival (Philippines), also in 2002. His short documentaries, Dancers! Pick Up Your Bamboos! an homage to the Filipino folk dance, and KUYA Medley, about a Toronto based Filipino R&B singing group. His multimedia show, The Romeo Candido Karaoke Show, has been mounted in Vancouver, Chicago, and Washington DC. Romeo co-wrote and directed the TV series pilot set in a real neighborhood in downtown Toronto called St. Jamestown, which aired nationally in Canada February 2005. He also wrote and directed a quirky short film about a Filipino sausage maker in the suburbs of Toronto called Rolling Longaniza, which also aired nationally in Canada in February 2005.
